Homosexual activists target Washington State Legislature: Stated goal — “full marriage”

Though Washington state’s high court two years ago upheld our state’s constitutional ban on gay marriage, homosexual activists have made significant gains towards gay marriage.

Following an aggressive incremental strategy they have led a very successful effort through our state legislature to gain marriage-like benefits.

Finding Olympia very friendly with Democrats in control of the state house, senate and governor’s office, they established a domestic partnership registry in 2007 which was successfully expanded in 2008 to include a growing list of benefits.

“Our purpose in passing domestic partnership legislation is about getting to full marriage in the end,” acknowledged Senator Ed Murray D-Seattle, one of several openly gay members of the legislature. “We think that by building aspects of marriage in bills we start to change the hearts and minds of citizens.”
